What is bee adoption all about?
Adopting a hive involves funding its maintenance - this includes providing food, medicine, maintenance and other necessary activities to ensure the well-being of the bees. Shoper 's support allows the university to focus on research and education without the additional financial burden of maintaining a particular hive.
- We want to create our little oasis for bees in every city where we have an office - because we know how important they are to the urban ecosystem. We are currently taking care of hives in Krakow and Szczecin, and we are already working on more locations. - Says Nina Pankiewicz, ESG Specialist at Shoper.
Shoper and ZUT bet on education
The adoption of a beehive is just the beginning of a long-term cooperation between the company and the university. Educational workshops for Shoper employees and their children are planned, to be held at the university's Animal House. During the meetings, participants will have the opportunity to learn, among other things:
- Why bees are crucial to the ecosystem,
- What threats they face in the cities,
- How everyone can contribute to their protection, even without access to their own garden.
This is an important part of the project, as environmental awareness is as important as the activities themselves. Many people associate bees exclusively with honey production, meanwhile their most important role is to pollinate plants, which has a direct impact on agriculture and nature. For ZUT scientists, popularizing this knowledge is a natural extension of their research work.
