Kaufland's Polish marketplace will have its virtual opening on August 7. The company also plans to launch a sales channel for the Austrian market (so far the service has allowed sales in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia). How will this affect Polish e-commerce and what will retailers gain? Shoper brand experts answer.

Kaufland is a German hypermarket chain owned by the Schwarz Group, which offers a wide range of food and industrial products in nearly 6,500 categories. Kaufland's Marketplace has been enabling the sale of products to the German market since 2021, and also to the Czech and Slovak markets since 2023. According to the chain - the scale of visitors to their sales platforms is huge - the German site alone is visited by 32 million users per month.

Soon the network will also open to new markets: Polish and Austrian. This is a milestone for online store owners, who will thus gain the ability to reach millions of potential customers. Does the new marketplace on the Polish market give cause for concern for the already strongly established leaders, i.e. Allegro or Amazon?

- Competition between sales platforms spurs innovation, and Kaufland's expansion into the Polish and Austrian markets will bring many benefits to both retailers and new growth opportunities for the Shoper Group. Multichannel is an important part of our ecosystem, as it is through it that we can expand our support and services tailored to the specifics of new markets and, above all, the needs of our customers. We are happy that we can continually help increase the reach and business potential of Polish e-tailers. - comments Dariusz Kowalski, Business Development Director of Shoper Group

Shoper is already preparing retailers to enter new markets

Shopera customers (the most popular platform for running an online store in the subscription model in Poland) are already taking advantage of the potential of Kaufland's marketplace - selling their products in the German, Czech and Slovak markets. As Shopera representatives point out, this is a significant channel for online store owners to gain new sales.

- Already more than 100 of our retailers are reaching out to new customers with the help of German, Czech and Slovakian Kaufland. Therefore, I hope that this platform will also find its way well into our market, as well as the Austrian one. The Kaufland brand is already well-known in Poland, which should make it easier to attract new customers compared to less well-known marketplace platforms-says Maja Adamus - Team Leader Marketplace Shoper

Kaufland's Polish marketplace will open on August 7. Its Austrian version, on the other hand, will have its opening in September. Shoper is already preparing its customers for sales in the new channels.

- Vendors will gain access to more than 81 million potential customers - a total of in as many as five countries. Kaufland, with its established position and extensive infrastructure, can become a serious competitor to current leaders such as Allegro in Poland and Amazon in Austria. That is why we are already preparing our sellers' offers so that they are ready to be launched on both the Polish and Austrian markets. More choice of sales platforms, leads to more competitive partnership terms. - comments Michal Dyrszka, Head of Selium at Shoper
