Self-development first

The beginning of the year is conducive to the introduction of new habits, such as regular reading, acquiring knowledge or improving skills, which is reflected in the purchasing decisions of Poles. In January, there was a significant increase in interest in e-books (electronic books) - especially publications on artificial intelligence, healthy eating and cooking. Selected online bookstores on the Shoper platform recorded an increase of up to 379% in e-book sales compared to November in 2024 - a month traditionally considered the peak shopping season. The e-book industry as a whole also saw a significant increase - by as much as 101% compared to last January.

- Some stores boost sales of specific products by organizing so-called drops, which are limited-time or quantity product launches. This is a popular way to sell e-books, among other products. Some e-book stores on Shoper, organizing the so-called drops, reached in January a turnover of even several hundred thousand zlotys - in just a few days. - Comments Sandra Olszewska, Head of Customer Experience at Shoper. - This form of sales can lead to record-breaking results, even in smaller online stores, she adds.

Also riding the wave of New Year's resolutions is a growing interest in language learning courses - their sales increased by 12% compared to January 2024. Time organization support tools such as planners, calendars and journaling notebooks have also gained popularity. Selected stores offering book calendars recorded a 74% increase in sales compared to the previous year, showing that more and more people want to consciously plan their daily life and achieve their goals more effectively.

We focus on a healthy lifestyle

Winter sports equipment was also particularly popular in January. Select stores with this type of assortment reported sales increases of up to 355%, and skis alone sold 139% better than in January last year. This can be attributed to both New Year's promotions and the ongoing winter holiday season. The growing popularity of winter sports accessories suggests that many of us were already actively pursuing New Year's resolutions related to a healthy lifestyle in January.

Interest in dietary supplements is also not waning, as evidenced by micro-reports from Shoper. Compared to the same period a year ago, sales of supplements increased by 52%, which shows that taking care of one's health remains a priority, and Poles are increasingly reaching for additional support for the body.

- January is the time for New Year's resolutions, and shopping data shows that for many Poles this is not just a temporary impulse, but a real lifestyle change. The increase in sales in key categories related to health, education and physical activity may indicate that Poles are getting more serious about their New Year's resolutions. - Magda Rękas, Data Analyst at Shoper, concludes.

Start the two-wheel season sooner

At selected motorcycle accessory stores, sales in January 2025 were up as much as 310% over January 2024, and the overall motorcycle industry saw a 28% increase in sales. Weather conditions are increasingly shaping Poles' buying decisions - the mild winter makes preparations for the motorcycle season start much earlier ((according to data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service report, January 2025 was the warmest January ever measured).

It wasn't just motorcycles that caught the attention of shoppers - the bicycle season is also starting earlier. Already at the beginning of the year, interest in parts and accessories such as inner tubes, chains and pedals increased significantly. In selected stores, the sales growth rate of bicycle accessories reached 173%, and the bikes themselves sold 139% better than in January of the previous year.
